Communitarian Living Experiences in Mayan Lands 14 days

Day 1º. Guatemala Airport – Guatemala     
Arrival to Guatemala City Airport and transfer to Hotel Panamerican in Guatemala City. Lodging.

Day 2º. Guatemala – Santa Lucía Utatlán-San Marcos
Transfer to Santa Lucía Utatlán, Heart of the Forest. Short trekking around the forest. Transfer to the Ecological Park Chuiaxamoló, in Santa Clara La Laguna. Stop at COPIKAJ to get a demonstration of the artisans and have the chance to buy handicrafts of the community. We will have a lunch prepared by the community (ASUVIM at the village Paquip). After lunch we will take a coffee tour. We will continue to San Marcos La Laguna where we will take a public boat to arrive to your hotel. Dinner and lodging at Casa del Mundo.

Day 3 º.  San Juan La Laguna-Santiago Atitlán-San Juan La Laguna 
Breakfast. In the morning: departure by boat to San Juan La Laguna. Reception at Rupalaj K´istalin head quarters, Accompanied by a local tour guide, we will visit Ixoq Ajkeem and have a demonstration of natural dyes and woven textiles. Community lunch. In the afternoon, we will have a tree plantation ancestral Mayan spiritual ceremony. Lodging at Hotel Pamuelle.

Day 4 º. San Juan La Laguna – Santiago Atitlán – San Juan La Laguna  
Breakfast. Transfer by boat to Santiago Atitlán. At our arrival, we will be met by staff of ASOTUR and in the company of our local community expert we will visit the Church, Maximón (syncretism), and painting and sculpture workshops. Lunch at the Community restaurant of the Panabaj women town. In the afternoon, we will return to San Juan La Laguna. Lodging at Hotel Pamuelle.

Day 5º. San Juan La Laguna – Chichicastenango
Breakfast. Transfer by boat to Panajachel, continuation by bus to Concepción and visit to the colonial church of the town. In the afternoon: arrival to Chichicastenango. Lodging at Hotel Santo Tomás.

Day 6º. Chichicastenango – Nebaj – Aldea Xix
Breakfast. During the morning we will visit Chichicastenango, one of the famous markets in all Latin America. Lunch on your own. We will continue to the Community Project Nuevos Mayas. Dinner and lodging at Albergue Rech Tinamit “La Casa del Pueblo”.

Day 7 º. Xix – La Ruta Chayama – Xix
Breakfast. Accompanied by a local expert, we will have a walk and a round trip horse ride from Xix village to Chacatlé community, where travelers would have the opportunity to get in touch with nature, history and regional gastronomy. Boxboles tasting, our typical lunch. Return to hostel. Dinner and lodging at Rech Tinamit “La casa del pueblo”.

Day 8 º.   Xix – Nebaj – Biotopo Quetzal – Cobán
Breakfast. Departure to Cobán. On our way we will visit The Biotope of Quetzal, officially known as the Mario Dary Rivera Nature Reserve. The biotope protects an important remnant of cloud forest, which is the habitat for numerous species of flora and fauna, including Guatemala´s national bird, the Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno). Lodging at La Posada Cobán.

Day 9º.  Cobán – Candelaria
Breakfast. We will dedicate our day to visit the area and explore one of the most spectacular caves in Candelaria, a complex of extraordinary underground water currents in the world. Lunch, dinner and lodging in Candelaria Lodge.

Day 10 º.  Candelaria – Uaxactún
Breakfast. Early departure to Petén jungle. We will get to Uaxactún, a community located into the Mayan biosphere reserve. Lunch prepared by the community members. In the afternoon, with the local tour guide, we are going to visit the archaeological site, gum and xate extraction process, tuza and wood handcrafts and we’ll have time to share with the community. Dinner.  Lodging at the local community.

Day 11º. Uaxactún – Tikal – Flores
Breakfast. We will visit Tikal, the jewel of the Mayan Classic period. Lunch at the archaeological site and then transfer to Santa Elena. Lodging at Hotel Maya Internacional.

Day 12º. Flores – Visit Antigua – La Antigua
Breakfast. In the morning: transfer to the airport to fly to Guatemala city. Arrival to the airport and transfer to La Antigua, old colonial capital of the country, that was declared “Cultural Heritage of Human Kind”. The visit includes the Cathedral, Main Square, the most important monuments, museums, bookstores, restaurants, art galleries, etc. Free afternoon. Lodging at Hotel Villa Colonial.

Day 13º. La Antigua
Breakfast. We have the day free to enjoy the facilities of your hotel or walk around the cobblestone streets of the old colonial capital of Guatemala. Lodging at Hotel Villa Colonial.

Day 14 º La Antigua – Airport
Breakfast. Transfer to Guatemala City Airport.   End of services.
