Guatemala Markets and Nature 10 days

Day 1º.(THU)  – Guatemala Airport – Guatemala

Arrival to the International airport and transfer to your hotel in Guatemala City. Lodging.

 

Day 2º.(FRI)-Guatemala – San Andrés Xecul – Salcajá  – Quetzaltenango

Breakfast. Departure to the Guatemalan Highlands. We will visit San Andrés Xecul, well known by its impressive parish church with a spectacular façade that combines the brilliant colors of the native women´s “huipil” (blouse). Continuation to Salcajá, the first producer of mottled fabrics worn by the female population of the town. We will visit La Ermita Church, the first catholic temple built in Guatemala. In the afternoon: visit to the colonial city that still preserves the traditions of the Mayas and Quiches, blending the old colonial past with the dynamic and modern life style. Lodging.

 

Day 3º.(SAT) – Quetzaltenango –Zunil y Almolonga – Chichicastenango

Breakfast. We will visit Zunil, a pre-Columbian area. We will continue to the market of Almolonga, famous by its rich and fertile vegetables crops. At the end of the afternoon: arrival to Chichicastenango.

 

Day 4º.(SUN) – Chichicastenango – Market –  Atitlán

Breakfast. Today we will visit one of the most famous indigenous markets in all Latin America. That day, we will enjoy a living experience. We will visit a community project in an indigenous town where travelers will take, with local women, a corn tortilla workshop, the most basic and traditional Guatemalan recipe. Lodging.

 

Day 5 º.(MON) – Atitlán – Santiago Atitlán – Guatemala

Breakfast. We will take a boat to visit the village Tzutuhil of Santiago Atitlán. In the afternoon: transfer to Guatemala City. Lodging.

 

Day 6º.(TUE) – Guatemala – Copán

Breakfast. We will depart from Guatemala City, and cross to Honduran territory to visit Copán, a Mayan civilization: Stelae, pyramids, ball courts, burials, etc. Lodging.

 

Day 7º.(WED) – Copán – Quirigua – Izabal Area

Breakfast. Departure to the Caribbean side of Guatemala On our way, we will include the visit to Quiriguá, archaeological site that has the tallest stelae built by the Mayas. At the end of the visit, we will visit Izabal, one of the nature wonders of the country. Lodging.

 

Day 8º.(THU) – Izabal Area – Río Dulce – Petén

Breakfast. Morning boat ride through Río Dulce, a unique place of ecological and natural richness. Through the ride, we will go by boat to the touristic site of Cayo Quemado, to have a living experience.  With the community members, we will enjoy a culinary workshop preparing a delicious winkle (also known as “burro”) or shrimp and coconut ceviche. After lunch, we will continue our boat tour and head to Río Dulce town, where our transportation is going to be waiting to continue our trip to Petén jungle. Lodging.

 

Day 9º. (FRI) – Petén – Tikal – La Antigua

Breakfast. Today we will visit the Mayan city of Tikal, the jewel of the classic Mayan world. Lunch at the site. Transfer to the airport to take a short flight back to Guatemala and then transfer to La Antigua. Lodging.

 

Day 10º.(SUN) – La Antigua – Airport Guatemala

Breakfast. Transfer to Guatemala City Airport. End of our services.
