Mayan and Caribbean treasures 10 Days
Day 1º. (THU) Airport – San Salvador
Arrival to Guatemala City airport and transfer to your hotel in Salvador. Lodging.
Day 2. (FRI) El Salvador – Tazumal – Santa Ana- Joya de Cerén – Suchitoto
Breakfast. Departure to the archeological site of Tazumal, the most important Mayan ceremonial center in El Salvador. We will continue to Santa Ana, the second most important city in the country. We will visit its charming historic centre, the National Theatre, the central square and the Gothic-style cathedral. Then we’ll go to the archaeological site Joya de Cerén, declared World Heritage by UNESCO and known as the Mayan Pompeii. Undoubtedly, this is one of the most important archaeological discoveries in Latin America. In the afternoon: transfer to the colonial city of Suchitoto. Lodging.
Day 3. (SAT) Suchitoto
Breakfast. Today, we’ll have a walking tour along Suchitoto, visiting its beautiful cobbled streets, art galleries, craft houses, its Central Park and the church of Santa Lucia. Free afternoon for optional activities such as an indigo workshop or a boat trip along Suchitlán Lake. Lodging.
Day 4. (SUN) Suchitoto – Copán
Breakfast. Early departure to the border with Honduras. During the day, we will cross the Honduran border to visit Copan, which keeps stelae, pyramids, ball games and unique burials in the Mayan world. Lodging.
Day 5º. (MON) Copán – Quiriguá – Área Izabal
Breakfast. Departure to the Caribbean side of Guatemala On our way, we will include the visit to Quiriguá, archaeological site that has the tallest stelae built by the Mayas. At the end of the visit, we will visit Izabal, one of the nature wonders of the country. Lodging.
Day 6º. (TUE) Izabal area – Río Dulce – Petén.
Breakfast. Morning boat ride through Río Dulce, a unique place of ecological and natural richness. Through the ride, we will go by boat to the touristic site of Cayo Quemado, to have a living experience. With the community members, we will enjoy a culinary workshop preparing a delicious winkle (also known as “burro”) or shrimp and coconut ceviche. After lunch, we will continue our boat tour and head to Río Dulce town, where our transportation is going to be waiting to continue our trip to Petén jungle. Lodging.
Day 7º. (WED) Petén – Tikal – Guatemala
Breakfast. Today we will visit the Mayan city of Tikal, the jewel of the Classic period. Lunch in the archaeological site. Transfer to Flores airport to take a short flight back to Guatemala. Transfer to the hotel. Lodging.
Day 8º. (THU) Guatemala – Chichicastenango – Atitlán
Breakfast. Departure to Guatemalan Highlands with destination to the village of Chichicastenango, where we will visit one of the most famous indigenous markets in all Latin America. That day, we will enjoy a living experience, where the travellers will have a corn workshop with local women. Corn is the most important staple food in Guatemala. Lodging.
Day 9º. (FRI) Atitlán – Santiago – La Antigua
Breakfast. Today we will take a boat to visit the Tzutuhil town of Santiago Atitlán. After the excursion, we will continue towards La Antigua, arriving in mid-afternoon to enjoy a guided tour of this colonial city declared a World Heritage site: a walk through the cathedral, Central Square, main monuments and museums. Lodging.
Day 10º. (SAT) La Antigua – Guatemala Airport
Breakfast.Transfer to Guatemala City airport. End of our services
