Mayan And Caribbean Route – 13 Days
Day 1º. (MON) Cancún – Ek Balam – Chichén Itzá – Mérida
In the morning, we will leave towards the archaeological zone of Ek Balam, which, judging by the size and quality of its constructions, was a political entity of great wealth and prosperity. At the end of the visit, we can have a refreshing bath in one of the cenotes of the area. We will continue towards the colonial city of Valladolid, panoramic visit to reach the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá, an enigmatic place, declared Patrimony of Humanity and recognized as one of the new seven wonders of the modern world. After lunch, we will continue to Merida, capital of the state of Yucatan, known as “White City”, we will have a tour of the Paseo de Montejo, the monument to the homeland, the Main Square, the Cathedral and Government Palaces. Day 2º. (TUE) Mérida – Uxmal – Campeche
Breakfast. Today we will visit the archaeological center of Uxmal, one of the most beautiful archaeological zones of the Puuc Route. The greatness of the Pyramid of the Diviner, the magnificent friezes of the Quadrangle of the Nuns, the shells of the Building of the Turtles, the ball game and the panoramic views from the Temple of the Governor, speak to us of the importance of this Mayan architectural set. In the afternoon, we will take the road to Campeche and have the rest of the afternoon free. Lodging.
Day 3º. (WED) Campeche – Palenque
Breakfast. In the morning, we will have a panoramic tour of this beautiful historic city, passing through the heart of the picturesque old town, with its pastel colonial houses, gabled bell churches, fortresses and museums. We will be able to appreciate the walls of the old city with its square, fortress and traditional neighborhoods. At the end, we will go to Palenque, a Mayan town located in the state of Chiapas. Day 4º. (THU) Palenque
Breakfast. Today we will visit the archaeological site of Palenque, one of the most important sites of the Mayan World, we will know the famous Pyramid of the Inscriptions where the sarcophagus of King Pakal was found, with a gravestone engraved in relief, the temple of the Foliated Cross, the temple of the Sun and the Palace. Return to the hotel. Lodging.
Day 5º. (FRI) Palenque – Yaxchilan – Petén
Breakfast. Very early in the morning, departure to the Corozal border, to take a boat and visit Yaxchilan, known for its large number of architectural structures and inscriptions, return to Corozal for lunch and then the migratory procedures continue to the Petenera jungle. Lodging.
Day 6º. (SAT) Petén – Tikal – Guatemala City
Breakfast. Today we will visit the Mayan city of Tikal, the jewel of the classic Maya World. Lunch in the archaeological site. Transfer to Flores International Airport to flight back to Guatemala City .Transfer to the hotel. Lodging.
Day 7º. (SUN) Guatemala City – Chichicastenango – Atitlán
Breakfast. Departure to Guatemalan Highlands with destination to the village of Chichicastenango, where we will visit one of the most famous indigenous markets in all Latin America. That day, we will enjoy a living experience, where the travelers will have a corn workshop with local women. Corn is the most important staple food in Guatemala. After the visit we will continue towards Lake Atitlán, that Aldous Huxley said “it is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world”. Lodging.
Day 8º. (MON) Atitlán – Santiago – Guatemala
Breakfast. Morning: Today we will take a boat to visit the village Tzutuhil of Santiago Atitlán. After the excursion, we will head towards Guatemala City. Lodging.
Day 9º. (TUE) Guatemala – Copán
Breakfast. Departure from Guatemala. During the day, we will cross the Honduran border to visit Copan, which keeps stelae, pyramids, ball games and burials that are unique in the Mayan World. Lodging.
Day 10º. (WED) Copán – Quiriguá – Izabal Area
Breakfast. Departure to the Caribbean side of Guatemala. On our way, we will include the visit of Quiriguá, archaeological site that has the tallest stelae built by the Mayas. In the afternoon, we will arrive at the Izabal area, one of Guatemala’s natural wonders. Lodging.
Day 11º. (THU) Izabal Area – Airport – La Antigua
Breakfast. We will have the morning free to enjoy the hotel facilities and get to know the colourful fishing village. In the afternoon, transfer to Puerto Barrios airport to take a flight to Guatemala. Reception and transfer to La Antigua, a colonial city declared a World Heritage Site. Lodging.
Day 12º. (FRI) La Antigua
Breakfast. We will have a free day to enjoy La Antigua and the hotel facilities. As an optional activity, during the morning, we will be able to make a cultural visit of the city, excursion to the Pacaya Volcano or Coffee Farm. Lodging.
Day 13º. (SAT) La Antigua – Airport de Guatemala
Breakfast. Transfer to the International Airport of Guatemala City. End of our services.
