Mayan Route and Markets 14 days

Day 1º. (MON) Cancún – Ek Balam – Chichén Itzá – Mérida
In the morning, we will leave towards the archaeological zone of Ek Balam, which, judging by the size and quality of its constructions, was a political entity of great wealth and prosperity. At the end of the visit, we can have a refreshing bath in one of the cenotes of the area. We will continue towards the colonial city of Valladolid, panoramic visit to reach the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá, an enigmatic place, declared Patrimony of Humanity and recognized as one of the new seven wonders of the modern world. After lunch, we will continue to Merida, capital of the state of Yucatan, known as “White City”, we will have a tour of the Paseo de Montejo, the monument to the homeland, the Main Square, the Cathedral and Government Palaces. Lodging.

Day 2º. (TUE) Mérida – Uxmal – Campeche 
Breakfast. Today we will visit the archaeological center of Uxmal, one of the most beautiful archaeological zones of the Puuc Route. The greatness of the Pyramid of the Diviner, the magnificent friezes of the Quadrangle of the Nuns, the shells of the Building of the Turtles, the ball game and the panoramic views from the Temple of the Governor, speak to us of the importance of this Mayan architectural set. In the afternoon, we will take the road to Campeche and have the rest of the afternoon free. Lodging.

Day 3º. (WED) Campeche – Palenque 
Breakfast. In the morning, we will have a panoramic tour of this beautiful historic city, passing through the heart of the picturesque old town, with its pastel colonial houses, gabled bell churches, fortresses and museums. We will be able to appreciate the walls of the old city with its square, fortress and traditional neighborhoods. At the end, we will go to Palenque, a Mayan town located in the state of Chiapas. Day 4º. (THU) Palenque
Breakfast.  Today we will visit the archaeological site of Palenque, one of the most important sites of the Mayan World, we will know the famous Pyramid of the Inscriptions where the sarcophagus of King Pakal was found, with a gravestone engraved in relief, the temple of the Foliated Cross, the temple of the Sun and the Palace. Return to the hotel. Lodging.

Day 5º. (FRI) Palenque – Yaxchilan – Petén
Breakfast.  Very early in the morning, departure to the border Corozal, to take a boat and visit Yaxchilan, known for its large number of architectural structures and inscriptions, return to Corozal for lunch and then the immigration formalities continue to the Petenera jungle. Lodging.

Day 6º. (SAT) Petén – Tikal – Petén  
Breakfast. oday we will visit the Mayan city of Tikal, the jewel of the classic Mayan World. Lunch in the archaeological site.  Transfer to the hotel. Lodging.

Day 7º. (SUN) Petén – Yaxhá – Petén 
Breakfast.  In the morning we will visit the spectacular Mayan city of Yaxháwith and its sacred lagoon. Lunch at local restaurant. Return to the hotel. Lodging.

Day 8º. (MON) Petén – Guatemala – La Antigua
Breakfast.   In the morning: transfer to Flores Airport to take a flight to Guatemala City. Reception and transfer to La Antigua. Orientation tour in this colonial city declared World Heritage Site: ride to the Cathedral, central plaza, main monuments and museums. Lodging.

Día 9º. (MAR) La Antigua  
Breakfast.   We will have a free day to enjoy La Antigua, strolling through the cobblestone streets, appreciating its architectural styles of yesteryear or relaxing in the hotel facilities. As an optional activity, during the morning, we recommend a cultural visit of the city or Coffee Farm. Lodging

Día 10º. (MIÉ) La Antigua – Iximché – Atitlán 
Breakfast.   Departure to the Guatemalan Highlands. In our path we will visit Iximché, the old Mayan capital of the Cakchiquel Kingdom. We will continue to Lake Atitlán, that Aldous Huxley said “it is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world”. Lodging.

Día 11º. (JUE) Atitlán – Chichicastenango – Atitlán  
Breakfast.    In the morning: transfer to the village of Chichicastenango, where we will visit one of the most famous indigenous markets in all Latin America. Today, we will enjoy a living experience, where the travelers will have a corn workshop with local women, corn is the most important staple food in Guatemala. Lodging.

Día 12º. (VIE) Atitlán – Santiago – San Andrés Xecul – Quetzaltenango 
Breakfast.   In the morning, we will take a boat to visit the Tzutuhil village of Santiago Atitlán. After the excursion, we will go on to Quetzaltenango, to visit this colonial town that preserves the ancient traditions of its Maya-Quiche lineage, combined with the colonial past and the dynamics of modern life. On our way, we will visit San Andrés Xecul, which has a stunning parish church with a spectacular façade. Lodging.

Día 13º. (SAB) Quetzaltenango – Almolonga – Zunil – Salcajá – Guatemala
Breakfast. Today we will visit the market at Almolonga, known for its generous crops. We will continue to Zunil, one of the pre-Columbian villages, known for its regional fabrics. We will visit Salcajá, the first producer of mottled fabrics, used by women in their clothing. We will also visit the Church of La Conquistadora, which was the first Catholic Church in Guatemala. After these excursions, we will go back to Guatemala City. Lodging.

Día 14º. (DOM) Guatemala – Guatemala Airport  
Breakfast.   Transfer to Guatemala City Airport.  End of our services.
