Central American Colonial Route 12 days

Day 1|SAT – Guatemala Airport – Guatemala
Arrival at the airport and transfer to our hotel in Guatemala City. Lodging.

Day 2|SUN – Guatemala – Chichicastenango – Lago Atitlán 
Breakfast. Departure to the Guatemalan highlands with destination to the village of Chichicastenango, where we will visit one of the most famous indigenous markets in all Latin America. This day, we will enjoy a living experience, where will have a corn workshop with local women. Corn is the most important staple food in Guatemala. After the visit, we will continue to Lake Atitlán, as Aldous Huxley once said, “one of the most beautiful lakes in the world”. Lodging..

Day 3|MON – Lago Atitlán – San Juan La Laguna – Santiago Atitlán – Lago Atitlán 
Breakfast. Today we will take a boat to visit two of the twelve villages that surround this beautiful lake. We will visit the Tzutuhil village of San Juan La Laguna characterized by the harmony in which its inhabitants live with nature and culture. We will continue to Santiago Atitlán, a town inhabited by indigenous Tzutuhiles who live from fishing and handcrafts, although they are better known as worshippers of a Mayan-Catholic deity they call Maximón. Day 4|TUE – Lago Atitlán – Iximché – La Antigua
Breakfast. Departure to La Antigua Guatemala. On route, we will visit the archaeological site of Iximché, the ancient Mayan capital of the Cakchiquel kingdom. Upon our arrival in La Antigua, we will have a panoramic visit of this colonial city declared a World Heritage Site, we will appreciate the Cathedral, La Merced Church, the Central Plaza and its main streets and monuments. Day 5|WED – La Antigua
Breakfast. We will have day at leisure to enjoy La Antigua, strolling through its cobbled streets, appreciating their architectural style of yesteryear, or relaxing in the hotel facilities. As an optional activity, during morning, we recommend taking an excursion to Pacaya Volcano or Tikal. Lodging.

Day 6|THU – La Antigua – Tazumal – Santa Anta – Suchitoto  
Breakfast. Departure for El Salvador, considered Central America’s best-kept secret. After immigration formalities, arrival at the archaeological site of Tazumal, El Salvador’s most important Mayan ceremonial center. We will continue on to Santa Ana, the country’s second most important city. We will visit its charming historic center, the national theater, the central square, and the Gothic-style cathedral. After the visit, we will continue on to SuchitotBreakfast. Departure towards El Salvador, a country often regarded as Central America’s best-kept secret. After completing immigration formalities, we will visit the archaeological site of Tazumal, the most important Maya ceremonial center in El Salvador. We will then continue to Santa Ana, the country’s second-largest city, where we will explore its charming historic center, including the National Theater, Central Plaza, and the Gothic-style Cathedral.
After the visit, we will proceed to Suchitotoo. Lodging

Day 7|FRI – Suchitoto 
Breakfast. Today, we will take a walking tour of Suchitoto, exploring its beautiful cobblestone streets, art galleries, craft shops, central park, and the Church of Santa Lucia. The afternoon is free for optional activities such as an indigo dye workshop or a boat ride on Lake Suchitlán. Lodging.

Day 8|MON Suchitoto – Golfo de Fonseca – León
Breakfast. Early this morning, we will depart for the port of La Unión, where we will board a boat to cruise the Gulf of Fonseca. Along the way, we will admire imposing volcanoes, artisanal fishing villages, and the region’s exotic flora and fauna. Upon arrival in Potosí, Nicaragua, after completing immigration formalities, we will continue our journey to León.. Lodging

Day 9 |TU León  
Breakfast. Visit this wonderful colonial city, the birthplace of the renowned intellectual Rubén Darío. We will explore La Recolección Church, El Calvario, and the largest cathedral in Central America, where the poet is buried. The afternoon is free at your leisure. Lodging

Day 10| WED León – Masaya – Granada 
Breakfast. Departure to Masaya, known as the “City of Flowers.” We will visit Masaya Volcano National Park, the local market, and conclude our visit at the scenic viewpoint. Lunch included. In the afternoon, we will continue to Granada, the first city founded in the Western Hemisphere by Francisco Hernández de Córdoba. Lodging.

Day 11 | THU Granada – Isletas – Granada  
Breakfast. In the morning, enjoy a boat tour of the islets on the largest lake in Central America, where you’ll have the opportunity to observe a wide variety of local and migratory birds that visit this natural beauty. The afternoon is free to explore the city of Granada at your own pace and discover the secrets of this colonial gem. Lodging.

Day 12|FRI Granada – International Airport
Breakfast. Free time until transfer to the airport to board your international flight and end of our services.
