Highlands Copán Río Dulce – 10 days

Day 1| SAT – Guatemala Airport – Guatemala City
Arrival to Guatemala City airport and transfer to your hotel in Guatemala City. Lodging.

Day 2| SUN – Guatemala – Chichicastenango – Lake Atitlán
Breakfast. Departure to the Guatemalan highlands with destination to the village of Chichicastenango, where we will visit one of the most famous indigenous markets in all Latin America. This day, we will enjoy a living experience, where will have a corn workshop with local women. Corn is the most important staple food in Guatemala. After the visit, we will continue to Lake Atitlán, as Aldous Huxley once said, “one of the most beautiful lakes in the world”. Lodging.

Day 3| MON – Lake Atitlán – San Juan La Laguna – Santiago Atitlán – Lake Atitlán
Breakfast. Today we will take a boat to visit two of the twelve villages that surround this beautiful lake. We will visit the Tzutuhil village of San Juan La Laguna characterized by the harmony in which its inhabitants live with nature and culture. We will continue to Santiago Atitlán, a town inhabited by indigenous Tzutuhiles who live from fishing and handcrafts, although they are better known as worshippers of a Mayan-Catholic deity they call Maximón. Lodging.

Day 4| TUE – Lake Atitlán – Iximché – La Antigua
Breakfast. Departure to La Antigua Guatemala. On route, we will visit the archaeological site of Iximché, the ancient Mayan capital of the Cakchiquel kingdom. Upon our arrival in La Antigua, we will visit this colonial city declared a World Heritage Site, we will visit the Cathedral, La Merced Church, the Central Plaza and its main streets and monuments. Lodging.

Day 5| WED – La Antigua
Breakfast. We will have day at leisure to enjoy La Antigua, strolling through its cobbled streets, appreciating their architectural style of yesteryear, or relaxing in the hotel facilities. As an optional activity, during morning, we recommend taking an excursion to Pacaya Volcano. Lodging.

Day 6| THU – La Antigua – Guatemala – Copán
Breakfast. We will depart from La Antigua and cross to Honduran territory to visit Copán, a Mayan site with many interesting facts of the Maya civilization: stelae, Pyramids, ball courts, burials, etc. Lodging.

Day 7| FRI – Copán – Quiriguá – Izabal Area
Breakfast. Departure to the Caribbean side of Guatemala. On our way, we will visit the archaeological site of Quiriguá, which has some of the best stelae that the Mayans raised. In the afternoon, we will arrive at the Izabal area, one of the nature wonders of the country. Lodging.

Day 8| SAT – Izabal Area – Río Dulce – Petén
Breakfast. Morning boat ride through Río Dulce, a unique place of ecological and natural richness. Through the ride, we will go by boat to the touristic site of Cayo Quemado, to have a living experience with the community members; we will enjoy a culinary workshop preparing a delicious winkle or shrimp and coconut ceviche. After lunch, we will continue our boat tour and head to Río Dulce town, where our transportation is going to be waiting to continue our trip to Petén jungle. Lodging.

Day 9| SUN – Petén – Tikal – Guatemala City
Breakfast. Today we will visit the Mayan city of Tikal, the jewel of the classic Mayan World. Lunch in the archaeological site. Transfer to Petén Airport to take a local flight back to Guatemala City.  Transfer to the hotel. Lodging.

Day 10| MON – Guatemala City – Guatemala Airport
Breakfast. Transfer to the International Airport of Guatemala City. End of our service.

Highlands Copán Río Dulce

We will combine three days at the Guatemalan Highlands with the archaeological Mayan sites of Tikal and Copán, including the breathtaking Río Dulce at the Caribbean side of the country.  This is a motivating trip that includes a visit to one of the most emblematic Maya Cities:  Copán.
