Day 1| SAT MARCH 28 | Aeropuerto de Guatemala – Guatemala
Airport reception and transfer to our hotel in Guatemala City. Lodging.
Day 2| SUN MARCH 29 | Guatemala
Breakfast. We will have the day free to walk around this colonial city or take an optional excursion to Tikal, the jewel of classical Mayan culture. Lodging.
Day 3| MON MARCH 30 | Guatemala – Iximché – Lake Atitlán
Breakfast. We will depart for the Guatemalan highlands. On the way, we will visit the archaeological site of Iximché, the ancient Mayan capital of the Cakchiquel kingdom. In the afternoon, we will continue on to Lake Atitlán, which Huxley said was the most beautiful in the world. If time permits, we will take a short walk along the picturesque Calle Santander, where we will find a variety of restaurants, art galleries, and craft shops. At the end of the street, we will find a beautiful pier with spectacular views of Lake Atitlán. Lodging.
Day 4| TUE MARCH 31 |Lago Atitlán – San Juan La Laguna – Santiago Atitlán – Lago Atitlán
Breakfast. Today we will take a boat to visit two of the twelve villages surrounding this beautiful lake. We will visit the Tzutuhil village of San Juan La Laguna, known for the harmony with which its inhabitants coexist with nature and culture. We will continue on to Santiago Atitlán, a village inhabited by Tzutuhil indigenous people who make their living from fishing and handicrafts, although they are better known as worshippers of a Mayan-Catholic deity they call Maximón. In the afternoon, return to the hotel. Lodging.
Day 5| WED APRIL 1 | Lago Atitlán – Chichicastenango – La Antigua
Breakfast. We will depart for the town of Chichicastenango, where we will visit one of the most famous indigenous markets in all of Latin America. Today we will have an experiential activity, participating in a workshop with local women on corn, the staple food of Guatemala. In the afternoon, we will continue on to Antigua, a colonial city declared a World Heritage Site. Lodging.
Day 6 | THU APRIL 2 | La Antigua – Visit & Processions – La Antigua
Breakfast. We will take a stroll through the cobblestone streets that will transport us back to the 17th century. We will pass by the Palace of the Captains General, La Merced Church, San Francisco Church, and other colonial sites. During the visit, we will experience some of the traditions such as processions, masses, and colorful festivities prepared for this important date in the Christian calendar. Lodging.
Day 7| FRI APRIL 3 | La Antigua
Breakfast. We will have the day free to enjoy the colonial city. Lodging.
Day 8 | SAT APRIL 4 | La Antigua – Guatemala Airport
Breakfast. Transfer to Guatemala City airport and end of our services.
