Mayan Route – 11 days
Day 1| MON – Cancún – Ek Balam – Chichén Itzá – Mérida
In the morning, we will leave towards the archaeological zone of Ek Balam, which, judging by the size and quality of its constructions was a political entity of great wealth and prosperity. At the end of the visit, we can have a refreshing bath in one of the cenotes of the area. We will continue towards the colonial city of Valladolid, panoramic visit. In the afternoon, we will continue to the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá, an enigmatic place, declared Patrimony of Humanity and recognized as one of the new seven wonders of the modern world. Lunch included. After lunch, we will continue to Merida, capital of the state of Yucatán, known as “White City”. Lodging.
Day 2| TUE – Mérida – Uxmal – Campeche
Breakfast. In the morning, we begin our tour by exploring the heart of the Yucatecan capital. Our panoramic visit will include La Plaza Mayor, Casa de Montejo, San Ildefonso Cathedral, the Government Palace, and the Episcopal Palace, among other historical landmarks. We will then continue along the legendary Calle 60, leading us to the famous Paseo de Montejo, a grand avenue that reflects the splendor of Yucatán’s Golden Age. Following our city tour, we will proceed to the archaeological site of Uxmal, one of the most beautiful and significant sites along the Puuc Route. The majesty of the Pyramid of the Magician, the intricate friezes of the Nunnery Quadrangle, the shell motifs of the House of the Turtles, the ball court, and the panoramic views from the Governor’s Palace all testify to the cultural and architectural importance of this ancient Mayan city.In the afternoon, we will continue our journey toward Campeche. En route, we’ll stop at a traditional pottery or hat workshop, where we will meet and engage with master artisans and learn about their craft .Overnight stay in Campeche. Lodging.
Day 3| WED – Campeche – Palenque
Breakfast. In the morning, we will begin a panoramic tour of the historic center of San Francisco de Campeche, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. We will visit the city’s main attractions, including its colonial mansions, museums, the Fort of San Miguel, Fort of San José, the Cathedral, Independence Square, the San Carlos Bastion, Puerta de Tierra, and the Church of San Román, among others. At the end of the tour, we will travel along the Campeche coastline until we reach Palenque. Arrival in Santo Domingo de Palenque, with the rest of the afternoon free for personal activities or relaxation.Overnight stay in Palenque. Lodging.
Day 4| THU – Palenque – Palenque – Milsoha – Palenque
Breakfast. Today, we will visit the archaeological site of Palenque, one of the most important sites in the Maya World. We will explore the famous Temple of the Inscriptions, where the sarcophagus of King Pakal was discovered, featuring a beautifully carved relief on its tombstone. We will also visit the Temple of the Foliated Cross, the Temple of the Sun, and the Palace. After the archaeological tour, we will venture into the jungle to discover one of the most beautiful natural sanctuaries: Milsohá, a waterfall approximately 25 meters high, set in a stunning natural environment. In the afternoon, we will return to Santo Domingo de Palenque. Lodging.
Day 5|FRI – Palenque – Yaxchilan – Petén
Breakfast. In the morning, we will depart for the Mexico–Guatemala border at El Ceibo. After completing immigration procedures, we will continue our journey into the Petén jungle. Lodging.
Day 6| SAT – Petén – Tikal – Guatemala
Breakfast. Today, we will visit the Mayan city of Tikal, the jewel of the Classic Maya World. Enjoy a picnic lunch within the archaeological site. Afterwards, transfer to Flores Airport to take the flight to Guatemala City. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. Lodging.
Day 7| SUN – Guatemala City – Chichicastenango – Lake Atitlan
Breakfast. We will depart for the Guatemalan highlands, heading to the town of Chichicastenango, where we will explore one of the most renowned indigenous markets in all of Latin America. Today’s experience will include a hands-on corn workshop with local women, celebrating Guatemala’s staple food. After the workshop, we will continue our journey to Lake Atitlán, which Aldous Huxley famously described as the most beautiful lake in the world. Lodging.
Day 8| MON – Lake Atitlán – San Juan La Laguna – Santiago Atitlán – Lake Atitlán
Breakfast. Today, we will take a boat to visit two of the twelve villages surrounding this beautiful lake. We will explore the Tzutujil village of San Juan La Laguna, known for the harmony with which its inhabitants live in close connection with nature and their culture. Next, we will continue to Santiago Atitlán, a village inhabited by Tzutujil indigenous people who sustain themselves through fishing and craftsmanship. The town is also famously known for the worship of a unique Maya-Catholic deity called Maximón. Lodging.
Day 9| TUE – Lake Atitlán – Iximché – La Antigua
Breakfast. We will depart for the city of Antigua Guatemala. On the way, we will visit the archaeological site of Iximché, the ancient capital of the Cakchiquel Maya kingdom. Upon arrival in Antigua, we will explore this colonial city, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, visiting its main streets and historic monuments. Lodging.
Day 10| WED – La Antigua
Breakfast. Enjoy a free day to explore La Antigua Guatemala at your own pace. Stroll through its charming cobblestone streets, admire the historic architecture, or relax in the comfort of your hotel.As an optional activity in the morning, we recommend an excursion to Pacaya Volcano, a spectacular natural landmark. Lodging.
Day 11|THU – La Antigua – Guatemala Airport
Breakfast. Transfer to the International Airport of Guatemala City. End of our service.
