Photography in Guatemala 9 days

Day 1| TUE – Guatemala Airport – La Antigua
Arrival to Guatemala City Airport. Assistance and transfer to your hotel in La Antigua Guatemala. Lodging at Hotel Camino Real Antigua.

Day 2| WED – La Antigua – CIRMA Photo Library – San Antonio – Santa Catarina – Lake Atitlán
Breakfast. In the morning: transfer to the CIRMA Photo Library where we will have a presentation about the history of the photography in Guatemala, addressed by staff of the institution. A professional photographer will accompany us during the trip, he will be introduced and will provide us a debrief of the trip and details such as technical level, photo equipment of the members of the group, objectives of the trip and areas to be visited. Departure to Lake Atitlán, that Aldous Huxley said “it is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world”. Lake Atitlán is surrounded by three impressive volcanoes and 12 indigenous villages. Before sunset we will go to Santa Catarina and San Antonio Palopó. Lodging at Hotel Villa Santa Catarina.

Day 3| THU – Lake Atitlán – Chichicastenango – Guatemala
Breakfast. In the morning, transfer to village of Chichicastenango, where every Thursday and Sunday, one of the most important and colorful indigenous markets in Latin America is celebrated. In the afternoon: transfer to Guatemala City. Lodging at Hotel Barceló.

Day 4| FRI – Guatemala City – Copán
Breakfast. We will depart from Guatemala and cross to Honduran territory to visit Copán, a Mayan site with many interesting facts of the Maya civilization: Stelae, pyramids, ball courts, burials, etc. Lodging at Hotel Marina Copán.

Day 5| SAT – Copán – Quiriguá – Izabal Area
Breakfast. From Copan we will go to the Guatemalan Caribbean. On the way, we will visit the archaeological site of Quiriguá, which preserves some of the best stelae built by the Mayas. In the afternoon, we will arrive at the Izabal area, one of Guatemala’s natural wonders. Lodging at Hotel Villa Caribe.

Day 6| SUN – Izabal Area – Río Dulce – Petén
Breakfast. Morning boat ride through Río Dulce, unique place of ecological richness. We will continue through the road until reaching the northern part of the country, rich of deep jungle: Petén. Lodging at Hotel Villa Maya.

Day 7| MON – Petén Area – Tikal – La Antigua
Breakfast Today we will visit the Mayan city of Tikal, the jewel of the classic Mayan World. Lunch at the archaeological site. Transfer to Petén Airport to flight back to Guatemala City. Arrival and transfer to La Antigua. Lodging at Hotel Camino Real Antigua.

Day 8| TUE – La Antigua
Breakfast. Tour around the old colonial capital of the country, a delighting city declared World Heritage Site. We will see the most important monuments, churches: The Cathedral, San Francisco and La Merced, and will take advantage of the best morning light hours to make photos on the city. At the end of the visit, five photographs taken during the trip were handed in by the attendees, one photograph for each theme. Rest of the day at leisure to enjoy this beautiful city. In the evening group farewell dinner, exhibition of the photographs delivered colloquium on them and award to the best photograph in each category. Lodging at Hotel Camino Real Antigua.

Day 9| WED – La Antigua – Guatemala Airport
Breakfast.  Transfer to Guatemala City Airport.  End of our services.

Photography in Guatemala

Guatemala is a country that deserves to be photographed.   It has many breathtaking, wonderful sights such as volcanoes, rivers, lakes, beaches, cloud forests and jungles all over its incredible land. Its museums, cultural and archaeological sites, colonial cities, monuments and indigenous villages are highly appreciated by photographers.  All these priceless elements for the professionals of the photography have a common keypoint: Its beauty and magic brightness and color.   For this purpose, we have the support of a great institution, the photography library CIRMA, powered by a leader team of renowed photographers that will help you to pick up the best of Guatemala through pictures: Architecture, nature, spirituality, everyday life and archaeology.  Almost at the end of the trip, each participant will deliver one picture for every single topic to the evaluating team of CIRMA.   During the farewell dinner the best pictures made by the participants will be awarded.

Departure: Tuesday.
